Competency 02 · of 05
Connecting businesses and users
Level 2 (BUT2) — “Mastering the different components of connectivity solutions for businesses and users”
Why — transmission media and access networks connect employees, partners and customers securely and efficiently.
What — measure/analyse signals, deploy access networks (xDSL, VPN, VoIP, wireless/mobile), interconnect sites.
Where / When — SAE13, 1st year (BUT1), hands-on project in building C of the IUT. · How — physical installation (cabling, Cisco equipment), simulation in Packet Tracer, then on-site measurements and coverage mapping.
- Communicating with the client and the various stakeholders, sometimes in English
- Taking a scientific approach
- Choosing the appropriate solutions and technologies
- Proposing environmentally friendly solutions
- Deploying transmission media and systems
- Commissioning and administering a telecom operator's fixed or mobile access equipment
- Deploying and administering wireless access for a company
- Deploying communication systems
Project — SAE13 “Wireless network measurements (Wi-Fi)”: installation of a Wi-Fi network (rooms C100–C102) with Cisco equipment (access points, PoE switches, Wi-Fi controller, patch panels) and S/FTP cabling, modelling of the architecture in Cisco Packet Tracer, then assessment of building C's coverage with Acrylic Wi-Fi Analyzer.
Traces — Wi-Fi coverage heatmap, building cabling plan, signal measurements, Packet Tracer model.
Knowing how to measure, back up with data (heatmap, metrics) and present the quality of an access deployment carries over to any wireless or transmission infrastructure project.
- AC22.01 — Deploy and characterise complex transmission systems
- AC22.02 — Set up secure remote access
- AC22.03 — Set up a multi-site connection over an operator network
- AC22.04 — Deploy operator access networks
- AC22.05 — Ability to question a networks & telecoms specification
