Managing an IT project
SAÉ 5.02, “Managing an IT project”, is the team development project of the third year (semester 5, autumn 2026). It puts students in the position of a networks & telecoms professional working in an IT department, who designs an application within a team and therefore has to set up a collaborative working environment and project management methods.
The work is done in a group of 7 to 8 people using Scrum: a product owner (who is also the project lead), a scrum master and developers. The tools are imposed: Trello for the backlog and sprint tracking, GitHub for the code, a single IDE per team with npm for package management, a test runner for unit tests, and Docusaurus with TypeDoc/JSDoc for documentation.
The brief is to build an Instagram clone in Node.js / SQLite: profiles, photo and video posts (public or friends only), comments, likes and dislikes, resharing, hashtags and trends, a friendship system, one-to-one and group instant messaging, image filters and photo editing, reporting and moderation, notifications — all runnable with Docker.
Assessment covers project management as much as the product: quality of the application, individual involvement (including peer assessment), code quality (good practice, comments, documentation, following the Google coding style) and genuine use of the project management tools. The final submission is due on 23 December 2026.
My role — developer in the Scrum team: I take on features from the product backlog sprint after sprint.
